While getting out of her new bed recently, 'Elizabeth' got her feet tangled up in her comforter and fell to the ground.  She ended up breaking her arm on the fall.  Despite tremendous pain and living on her own for the first time in her life, she figured out what she needed to do and called AHCCCS.  She was then able to get a cab, courtesy of AHCCCS, and go to an urgent care facility.  After she was treated at the urgent care facility, 'Elizabeth' followed the directions given to her and scheduled an appointment to see her Primary Care Physician.  During her appointment with her PCP, she was able to get a referral to see an Orthopedist.  All of this she did without any help from her case managers. She even followed up with her appointment to see the Orthopedist and arranged transportation in getting there.  Her success in taking care of herself was another step in the direction towards independence for 'Elizabeth'.  We all hope that as she begins to navigate this complicated world on her own, she builds confidence in herself and her ability to be independent.  One can already hear her determination in meeting this goal, as she sometimes says when she takes the bus to an appointment or goes grocery shopping by herself: "I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it on my own."
