As of today, Leonard has been in his own apartment for about two and one half months.  Quite an accomplishment for someone suffering from schizophrenia who is not taking any medication and who only has food stamps as a source of income.  He is still keeping his apartment amazingly clean and has a great attitude.  Life has not been without difficulties, however.  This week he said he let someone borrow his food stamp card, because the person said they needed food.  Leonard has a passion to help people and it sometimes gets him in trouble when people decide to take advantage of his generosity.  This was one of those times.  Leonard said when he got his food stamp card back, it did not have any money left over.  Leonard was upset with the person he lent the card to and said he told him so.  Leonard reported that he let the issue go though and told the person to not ask for anything from him ever again.  A mature and wise thing to do.  Instances like this discourage Leonard, but he is learning from his mistakes.  I brought him a food box since he now doesn't have any food stamps and hope he can make it through the month on the generosity of the food banks.
This wasn't the only obstacle that Leonard met with this week.  Earlier in the week, I learned that Leonard's mailing address is different from address of the apartment complex he lives in.  This meant that I had to change his address with DES and still have to with the Social Security Administration.  The mistake may mean that Leonard has to wait even longer to get some income assistance.  Leonard remains persistent however, and we all hope he remains that way.
